Cyberlink Media Suite 9 Review

With the technology advancing very fast, all the computers feature now DVD trays. With the CD trays becoming old and DVDs becoming very popular, there has to be something new and intriguing for the tech world. And indeed there is. The new Blu-Ray technology started to be featured on computers around 2009 and with so many systems now being capable of reading BDs, we have to find a great program to play Blu-Ray movies.

CyberLink’s top Blu-Ray player software called DVD Media Suite 9 Ultra is a great program for this purpose. The latest generation player supports both writing and playback of BD video and lets you enjoy the picture-in-picture and video commentaries features of a Blu-Ray disc. The program can also create your own BD movies and we will talk a bit more about this in the expanded review.

CyberLink Media Suite 9 Ultra supports all the movie features such as networking, interactive BD-J and iHD, but also bookmarking and more advanced navigation capabilities. With this program it is very easy to move around the movie and not only. The interface of the application is very well designed and you won’t have problems finding your way to anything.
The program supports the latest Dolby Digital Plus and True HD technologies and also the DTS-HD technology, previously known as DTS++, which becomes the standard Blu-Ray lossless audio format. The quality of the played movies is great, but you can make it even better if you own a system that includes an NVIDIA PureVideo graphic card, one of the latest and the best video graphic cards on the market. The High Definition movie will be played spectacularly well on such a configuration.

Another feature of the Media Suite 9 Ultra is the capability of creating your own DVD movies. It’s very easy to edit personal and family photos and then enjoy them on a large LCD HDTV screen or on your computer. There are lots of special effects, transitions and titling scripts in the program’s library. This will not provide results as other professional photography software, but will allow you to input, edit and output content so you can enjoy it together with your family.

The program includes a burning and archiving capability so you don’t have to be afraid of losing photos, video or data, because you can back up everything on BDs. You can burn 25GB single-sided discs and 50GB double-sided media with Media Suite 9 Ultra. Burning media to a disc is not difficult at all, thanks to the step by step processes this program uses. Regardless of how much computer knowledge you have, the application will give you guidelines and you should be able to follow them and finish any process you want.

There are several other tools included in Media Suite 9 Ultra as well. A video editing package doesn’t normally feature the ability to rip MP3 files from CDs and create music discs, but CyberLink’s program does it. The application allows editing and modifying digital stills thanks to an excellent photo module and putting them into an animated slide presentation with an audio track in the background. Unfortunately the application only features nine save options for the Audio CD ripper: four MP3 bit-rate settings, four WMA bit-rate settings and WAV. Compared to other programs this is nothing, but we don’t have to forget this program is meant to be used mainly as a Blu-Ray player software.

The program can be purchased for $129.99 from the developer’s official webpage. Overall this is a great alternative to other software such as Nero, which requires several costly plugins to play Blu-Ray discs. Though CyberLink’s program is not very cheap either, it’s a great application that will not only play Blu-Ray discs, but will also allow you to create your own HD movies and to back up your data, audio or video files.
