My Summary:

found an adapter and software combo that worked wonders. I just got it today in the mail and I am already back up and running.

Get It Now or Download

On Tuesday I woke up to a hard disk failure on my main Windows box. Totally ruined my day. I have dealt with this in the past and it took days to recover. However this time I was more determined to find something that could get me back up in hours.

I found an adapter and software combo that worked wonders. I just got it today in the mail and I am already back up and running. I was so impressed that I felt I needed to share it with the list because I know you all worry at least a little bit about a hard drive failing.

I ordered another for my mom for mothers day too just in case hers decides to take a dump one of these days. I’d rather her be able to fix it instead of me trying to explain how to do it over the phone or have her take it to the Geek Squad where they charge an arm and a leg to fix it.

Check out the adapter here.

Let me know what you think about it in the comments section. Feel free to ask any questions about it too. I’ll do my best to share my experience with it.

Edit: This cable is mainly for non techies. And the software is useful too. More technical users already know how to do this using the extra cables laying around the office.

That cable works with both SATA and IDE drives.

May I suggest another & even more reliable solution is to clone
(not image) the installed hard-drive to a spare hard-drive with appropriate software. ex Acronis.
An hard drive caddy is required & an hard-drive similar in size & type to that on the installed pc or laptop.
Should the installed hard-drive fail, insert the cloned drive & update the docs, (reclone another spare hard-drive).
More info should you wish/ Pleased you were able to recover from the crash. With all best wishes Barrie.
