AVCHD Transcoder version 2.1

Panasonic Broadcast has released an update of its free AVCHD transcoder that will allow users to downconvert AVCHD content recorded by AVCCAM camcorders into DV files, in addition to DVCPRO HD. Available at www.panasonic.com/avccam, the AVCHD Transcoder version 2.1 will provide AVCCAM users with even more flexibility for work across HD and SD workflow environments.

With the free AVCHD Transcoder version 2.1 update, AVCCAM users can now edit AVCHD clips on non-linear editors that support both DVCPRO HD P2 files and standard definition DV-AVI. The software update will transcode the following AVCCAM formats to DV: 1080i/59.94, 1080i/50, 1080p/29.97, 1080p/25, 1080p/23.98. The software gives users the choice of 16:9 anamorphic, 16:9 letterbox or 4:3 edgecrop display formats. Cross-conversion is not available. The software continues to offer transcoding from AVCHD to DVCPRO HD in both 1080 and 720 formats.

AVCHD (AVCCAM is Panasonic's professional implementation of AVCHD) is an industry-standard format supported by more than 30 manufacturers and most editing software. And a key benefit of AVCCAM is that, unlike HDV, you can view your footage directly from the SD card in a growing number of highly-affordable HD video players, including Blu-ray players, Sony PlayStation 3, plasma displays, as well as PCs with AVCHD-compatible viewer software. If you don't have one of these players, you can transfer content into almost any format using editing software packages.

AVCCAM. Next generation affordable HD.

What is the Advantage of AVCHD with professional features?

Excellent Quality. Panasonic Broadcast AVCHD cameras have three ¼” progressive CCD Imagers that ensures high sensitivity. This results in high color resolution, which enables detailed images with natural hues producing stunning HD images. Professionals require professional features like XLR Mic/Line inputs and headphone output, and all of our cameras will have these types of professional features.

Solid State Acquisition.

Panasonic Broadcast AVCHD cameras have no moving parts in the recording process and record stunning HD images directly onto SDHC memory cards. Not only is this extremely reliable, but it allows for higher capacity media at a lower cost. The AG-HMC70, for example, can record over 2.6 hours at 13Mbps, the camcorder’s highest quality mode, or up to 6 hours at 6Mbps, the unit’s extended recording mode -- all on just one 16GB SDHC memory card. SDHC cards are widely available at consumer retail locations.

Simple and fast workflow.

Because the HD images are recorded on to a solid-state SDHC card, there is no time wasted digitizing your tape into your non-linear editing system (as you must do with the HDV format). This means that you just copy the files from your SDHC card to your computer and you can begin editing HD immediately.

Lower Cost.

Capitalizing on the success of the consumer AVCHD format, Panasonic is able to bring professional features to AVCHD at very affordable prices. The fact that you can reuse the SDHC card over and over again substantially reduces the cost of acquisition versus tape- or disc-based camcorders.
