Sep 10, 2009 - 2:53:17 PM - I was recently testing a new software called Blu-Ray to HDD and the output files you can choose from are .ts or .mkv.  I ripped my Blu-Ray disc into the .mkv format and after the conversion I tried to play it in PowerDVD. This did not work. Then I tried the free VLC player, to my suprise it worked brilliantly. So be sure to download the VLC Media Player to playback your .mkv files.

What is a .mkv file anyways?
An MKV file also know as a Matroska file. Matroska is an open source container format. It is an alternative to the popular MP4 and Avi formats and it also surpasses them in many areas.
