Best Buy is cutting $499 off the price of two Panasonic Plasma HDTVs with the purchase of a Panasonic Blu-ray player.
The deal essentially means a consumer will get a free Panasonic Blu-ray player by buying the Plasma set at the regular price. Best Buy sells the Panasonic Blu-ray player for $499.
The Best Buy deal follows a comment earlier today from
Matsushita (the maker of Panasonic branded products) that it planned to bundle Plasma HDTVs with its Blu-ray player.
However, the company did not reveal pricing specifics or whether the bundle will apply to all Panasonic Plasma sets.
Best Buy is making its offer good only for two 1080p models: A Panasonic 42-inch Plasma which is now available at Best Buy for $1,499, and a Panasonic 50-inch Plasma set, now available for $2,399.
Matsushita told Dow Jones today that the bundle was designed in part to boost Panasonic's Blu-ray market share, which now stands at 10 percent, according to Dow Jones. (The market share does not include the Play Station 3, which has a Blu-ray player inside.)
