- the TDK veloCD 32/10/40 uses Z-CLV to reach32x recording
speeds. The drive changes speeds at about the 6 and 16 minute
marks and has an average writing speed of about 22.77x.
The Plextor actually changes speeds at the same places,
but its average writing speed is 22.72x.
-
BURN-Proof- The TDK veloCD 32/10/40X features
Sanyo's popular BURN-Proof technology to help prevent
coasters. BURN-Proof was created by Sanyo and stands for
Buffer Under Run error Proof. If you have a slower computer
or want to multitask while writing and not create coasters,
then BURN-Proof is your answer.
-
FlexSS-BP- The TDK veloCD also uses Sanyo's own
Optimum Write Speed Control technology. This new technology
is called FlexSS-BP. FlexSS-BP loosely stands for Flexible
Speed and Flexible Strategy. While the goal of BURN-Proof
is to reduce the number of writing errors, FlexSS-BP allows
a user more flexibility when recording data.

Read Tests: For read performance , CD Speed 99 v0.85
are used to test read speeds, seek times and CPU usage. For
DAE testing CD Speed 99 v0.85 is used. CD Speed 99 is used
to give an overall DAE speed rating. Media used was a 74min
Audio disc.
Write Tests: To test the write speeds, Nero 5.5.7.8
and GEAR PRO Professional 6.0 are used to write 700mb to 80
minute discs. Times are recorded. To test rewrite scores,
Nero and GEAR are used to time how long it takes to write
650mb of mpg data in ISO format.

So there are the straight up times to burn an Audio and Data
cd with the TDK veloCD 32/10/40X.
Pertaining to writing, TDK's veloCD is one of the fastest
32x writers around. The TDK's rotation speed is considerably
higher than some of the other 32x writers and this does make
it a little noisier but nothing that is really not tollerable.
I recommend using media rated at 32x because it becomes more
important than ever when writing at these speeds.
Overall: 9 out of 10.
