What video format does my iPad support?

Apple iPad's support the following video formats and all iPad converting software can convert DVD disc to these:

*H. 264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second
*MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second
*Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second

What software is available that will allow me to convert DVD to iPad format?

There are both free and paid software currently avaiable for both Windows and Mac OSX. The advantage on using a paid is that you usually get better video resolution and multiple options for file size. Here is our shortlist of recommended DVD to iPad Converters.

Ok, details on how to convert the DVD to iPad format and transfer to the device?

For this example I will be using the Cucusoft iPad Video Converter Suite - Download Here! This is what we recommend using over the others.

First step - Add the video files you want to convert

This can either be a DVD Movie or existing video you already have on your hard drive.

Step 2 - Select the output for iPad Video

In the screenshot above, choose the Profile button and select "iPad MPEG-4 Movie (.mp4)".

Step 3 - Convert

Once you select the format to convert to. Click the big Convert button and wait about 20-30 minutes depending on your computer speed, memory, and video file size.

Step 4 - Transfer to your iPad

Once the conversion is complete you can copy over to your iPad using iTunes or whatever transfer software you use.
