How to Convert Video into DVD Format (Our 1 Click Easy Solution)

Jessie H. used our Ask the Burning Geek form to ask the following question: I have camcorder footage in AVI video format on my computer but how do I put this onto a DVD so I can watch it on my Television?

Good question Jessie and thanks for asking. I have been answering this questions for over a year now so I thought I would put together this article so if anyone else is wondering how to do it I could refer them here. So here it goes…

There are different levels of DVD converters currently available: Professional and Simple authoring are the main types, to put a name on it. Most professionals will use a software like Sony Vegas Pro which offers high end video production features including 3D and Blu-Ray authoring, true HD audio and more. But if you are not the Hollywood type like me and just want to create a simple DVD with a menu featuring your camcorder footage then I would recommend taking a look at a software application called ConvertXtoDVD.

Don’t be misled that lower end DVD creation software titles won’t do a good job, in fact many ‘simple’ tools that do this are made so that anyone that is able to shoot video will be able to convert it and burn it to a DVD. By just offering the necessary and important features that most users want from a DVD creator, most users will be happy with this type of software compared to the more higher end versions.

Why I Think ConvertXtoDVD is the Best Video to DVD converter

I have two words that sum up this software: Super Easy! You don’t have to be a video wizard or anything like that to make a cool looking DVD disc using your video. This converter software is as simple as dragging in the video clips you want to convert and hitting the convert button. Really, that’s all you have to do, take a look at a video walk-through below:

As you can see there are a few more advanced features available if you choose to use them, such as creating a custom DVD menu which you can personalize to make a more special DVD disc to share with your friends and family. You can also choose which video clips should be under which menu and you can choose the order of the video for proper playback.

The screenshot below is showing you the main menu which is basically the area you use to drag and drop your video clips into. From there you can choose the video output resolution (Good, Better, Best). If you only have 30 minutes or so of video then I would choose the Best setting to retain the resolution of the original video. If you are trying to cram as much as you can onto one DVD then the Good setting is what you will want to choose, but it may be best to just create more than one DVD disc. Why have crummy video I say.

Although this screen may look like gibberish to most, it is rather an easy menu system to keep all your video organized and structured to make the correct DVD format needed for DVD players. Other then these setting you can get a little more detailed if you want to by choosing the “Settings” option. But for most of us the default setting are perfect for creating a DVD from your video.

Super Speedy Video Conversion Technology

If you happen to be using a multi-core processor they you are in luck with conversion times. This software utilizes multi-core technology by speeding up video converting to the max, taking full advantage of multi cores. Convert video by using the lightning speed your PC offers.

Best Burning Engine Around

ConvertXtoDVD is made by VSO Software which has one of the best burning engines on the planet. This software has integrated burning using their award winning engine which offers the best burn rates and the most compatible burning you can find. It does not matter if you burn to DVD-R, or DVD+R formats, just make sure the playback device can play from these types of media.

If you want to try ConvertXtoDVD for yourself, you can download it here.
