Summary:

AnyDVD is all you need to work with any type of DVD or Blu-Ray video. Regardless of what copy protection is on the disc, AnyDVD will remove it for you.

More Details

AnyDVD in a nutshell is a background process that can remove the protected contents of a DVD and allow you free access to using this content in any way you choose. Don’t like the extras and movie trailers at the beginning of a DVD movie? Well with AnyDVD you can strip these out and only watch the movie like it was meant to be seen. Using AnyDVD you can control which application is launched whenever a disc is inserted into the system? Tired of waiting for PowerDVD to load every time you insert a movie disc? Use the settings in AnyDVD to specify for this not to load in any application thus reducing the time it takes for you to start working with the video you want to extract.

In addition to the decryption features that AnyDVD offers, you can also use this software to control the speed of your DVD drive which is useful for reducing the noise level that most drives create. For older monitors you can control the display frequency which is a nice touch to adjust to lighting levels in your particular room.

Why is all this useful?

By allowing you to make a ‘digital’ copy of a DVD disc you can make your own movie collection right on your PC’s hard drive or create a digital library to share over your network. Also you can preserve the original discs by not having to swap them out each time you want to watch a movie. The makers of this software also have a virtual drive emulator called Virtual Clone Drive which you can use to mount the images you create and this acts like if there was a physical disc in the drive and will play it like it is from a physical medium.

Main Features of AnyDVD:

  • Rip images of DVD movies onto your PC’s hard drive
  • Removes copy protections found on DVD’s and CD’s
  • Allows you to protect the original disc by making a duplicate ‘digital’ copy

Removes DRM from Audio CD’s Also

Do you have one of the few audio CD’s that contains DRM? Well your in luck with this software since it also support protected music CD’s too. Take complete control over the content that you purchased and do what you will with it.

I found a nice video overview of AnyDVD which you can watch here:

What do I use if I have Blu-Ray discs?

AnyDVD HDIt’s great that AnyDVD supports DVD and CD but what about the new Blu Ray format, what happens with these discs? Slysoft has an upgrade available called AnyDVD HD which adds a few more features for the HD viewer. With all of the same features as the original version, the upgrade also decrypts Blu-Ray discs, HD-DVD discs (why?), and has full support for digital displays by allowing you to view HD content without the use of a HDCP compliant video card and display. What this means is that you don’t have to have an expensive HD monitor to view HD content on your PC.

One of the more interesting features of AnyDVD HD is called magic file replacement which is a fun little way of making a movie ‘your way’ by allowing you to rearrange the video clips in the order you want. This is all controlled via XML scripts. Since this method uses XML all you need to do is create the script with the software and save it to your hard drive. Then if you want to watch the movie you created you would just select this script and it will play the movie the way you set it up. The Blu-Ray disc does not need to be extracted for this to work which is a nice touch.

For the more technically inclined this software included a UDF 2.5 file ripper so there is no need for a 3rd party file system.

Does this program actually change the original disk (will it remove protection materials forever)? Or does it just remove these parts on the copied dvd?

AnyDVD just sits running in the background, so if you have to access your video from the disc it will remove the copy protection as you access it. It does not do it permanently on the disc, only when you extract it.

Can you make a backup disc copy of the blu ray movie? What is the essential programs for cd/dvd/bluray disc copies/backups and to watch on the laptop.

Gavin, Yes it’s possible. Using AnyDVD in conjunction with our own FilePop HD Platinum will make this a simple process. AnyDVD is a deccrypter that removes copy protection from a physical disc. Then you can use a copying software to make a dup.

ok great! One last thing is AnyDVD the best all in one program or is there a better/cheaper alternative. The subscription for AnyDVD makes it seem pricey unless you get the lifetime. I have heard Leawo is a competitor.

Also DVDFab is another competitor. Thanks for the help.
