I know many of you are searching for a burning software that can tackle multiple DVD projects. From DVD Copying, to Data backup, to converting video into DVD format etc... But with all of the choices now it can seem a bit overwhelming. So I set out on a mission to determine what software is the best in the majority of DVD burning tasks, or what offers the best performance, is the most reliable, and heck "just plain looks good".
But first, why should you trust my review over the 100's of others online? Well OK since you asked, I started BurnWorld.com about 10 years ago with a few coworkers when we worked for a small disc burning API company that supplied burning functionality to iTunes, Symantec, Medical Imaging companies, government projects and more like this. At the time there was not that much information around the 'burning' industry except for some uber geeky behind the technology scenes and software company sites. So it was a natural fit for us to bring the consumers of this technology a real sense of what the technology can do for them and what products are available that will make their lives easier.
Which brings me back to the original question: Since 2001 I have tested nearly every single DVD burning application that has hit the market. Some titles have come and gone and others are still around after all these years and there are a few new surprises. The one I find myself using more and more these days is.....

I'm usually not easily impressed with other audio/video software because they tend to only do one function: ie. Burn a DVD or Convert Video only. However this package does it all. When I was first looking for a DVD Burning App I had 3 requirements: Can I copy DVD's easily, Can I make backup discs of my important files, music, docs, etc, and Can I burn home DVD movies from my existing videos. I was pleased to find that DVD NeXt Copy did all of these and did it well.
DVD Cloner 9 offers one of the very best DVD copy functions that you can find in a burning software. If you are only looking to copy DVD discs and copy them speed and with consistent burns then DVD Cloner is the one software you should be look at. First started in 2003 DVD Cloner has stood the test of time and continues to be one of my favorite single function applications. Why only 4 stars then? Since I am comparing it to full DVD burning software I have to downgrade it a bit because it only copies DVDs.

This is great but are there any drawbacks on using Free DVD Burning Software?
Like everyone else I prefer the free software model over paid any day. However in the case of burning software, free is not really free. Most of the apps you don't need to pay to use often include buggy software code, infrequent updates, no support, banner ads, pop up scripts, and often times malware. There are a few exceptions like CDBurnerXP and CopyToDVD which offer basic disc burning to backup your files to CD or DVD. But this app is limited in functionality where you can only burn files to disc. This is true with other free apps as well, they usually only include one function. So while free is good, if you want more advanced features that you actually want to use a paid option is the way to go. Just my 2 cents. ;)
